A Family Affair - The Victoria Beckham Fashion Show

It was a family affair at the Victoria Beckham Fall 2014 runway show in New York yesterday! The designer mom was accompanied by her entire fashionable family, including soccer stud David Beckham and their four gorgeous children, Brooklyn, 14, Romeo, 11, Cruz, almost 9, and Harper, 2½. Looking incredibly posh and polished, the family joined Victoria backstage before taking their seats in the front row to enjoy the show. Keeping it all in the family, the Beckhams even sat next to Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour who attended the show with her daughter, Bee Shaffer.

The collection was mostly black and white, with just the tiniest hint of colour, focusing on structured designs with a splash of femininity through an emphasis of pleats and ruffles.

Before the show began, The fashion mum even took to Instagram to share a pic of a lovely note her husband and kids left her, wishing her good luck with the show! How sweet is that? I love seeing this tight knit Hollywood family who is always there to support one another, just as any family should. Its nice to see such a high profile couple still going strong after 15 years of marriage and exemplifying the importance of family with their four kids.

Between the Victoria Beckham collection, David's H&M bodywear line for both men and kids and their son Romeo's budding modelling career, we can only imagine what to expect next from this fabulous fashion family.

What do you think of the collection?

Rachel Zoe - Family over Fashion

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicked off this morning in New York, and while in reality we’ve just begun shopping for spring, designers are already showing us what to expect for Fall 2014.

We’re excited to see new collections from designers like Diane Von Furstenberg, Zac Posen, Carolina Herrera, Badgley Mischka, Herve Leger and plenty more, but one person we won’t be seeing this season? Our fave celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe.

For the first time since her designer debut in 2011, Rachel Zoe will not be showing her name sake collection during New York Fashion Week. As crazy for fashion as we all know she is, there is one thing that will always top her priority list and that is her kids. With the recent birth of her second son, Kaius Jagger Berman just a few months ago in December, Rachel has decided that in the best interest of her family, she would not show her collection in New York this time around.

(Could she have looked any more fabulous after having just given birth!?)

“While I look forward to New York Fashion Week each season, I’ve made the difficult decision to move our fall 2014 runway show from Feb. 13 in New York to a later date in Los Angeles. As a new mother, my newborn son is too young to travel with me and I’m unable to leave him for the amount of time required to appropriately prepare for the show in New York.”

While her signature ’60s-inspired bohemian chic looks will be missed on the runway, I have to say, I really respect Rachel for making this decision. It must have been a difficult one to make, but she surely knows where her priorities are, and that is with her family. This is definitely a dilemma we all face as working mothers, when trying to balance work and family life. I think both her family and her business will benefit from this decision as her young sons will have mommy at home when they need her most, and at the same time she will be able to adequately prepare a fabulous show later on in Los Angeles, instead of (pardon the expression) half-assing either situation. Sometimes difficult decisions have to be made in order to accommodate everyone`s best interest.

What are some of the dilemmas you face as a working mom? Have you ever had to make a tough decision between work and family like Rachel did? Let us know in the comments.

PS. Loving the rock star theme of Rachel`s boys middle names - Morrison and Jagger (aka Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger). I`m also a little bias towards the name Jagger since my son shares the same name. :)

Strut - The Fashionable Mom Show

As we previously mentioned, the Strut Mom Fashion Show was held at Lincoln Centre last week during New York’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. It was the first of its kind, and really coincided with our goal here at Montreal Fashion Moms, by bringing Fashion and Motherhood together, because being a mom shouldn’t mean sacrificing your style and love of fashion.

Real moms walked the runway with strollers and pregnant bellies, looking chic for every occasion from school drop-off to date night. The event was even hosted by non-other than the beautiful model mom of 2, Iman, and while she didn’t walk the runway, leaving the spotlight to the mom blogger models, she did take her place in the front row in a purple lace top and short, pleated skirt by Prabal Gurung to support the cause.

“I'm with my people! People think fashion and moms are at odds, which I don't think they are," the supermodel and mogul said backstage. "It's just our lifestyle is different, yet we hold the purse strings at home and make all the decisions on purchases." We couldn’t have said it better!

The Strut Mom Fashion Show showcased styles in various price ranges from a variety of designers and retailers like Tory Burch, Rachel Roy, Michael Kors, maternity wear from Hatch and A Pea in the Pod as well as accessories from the Gap, and Iman’s handbag line on HSN.com. They made sure that all the pieces shown were completely accessible to moms and available in stores now (not in 6 months from now), from stores ranging from Bloomingdales to T.J. Maxx.

This is a huge step forward for us fashion lovin’ moms! To be walking the runway at Lincoln Center during fashion week is any fashionista’s dream come true. Just because you’re a mom, doesn’t mean you lose your sense of style or your love of fashion. We can be fabulous and functional too! And like Iman said, nobody has buying power like we do! We are so thrilled for all of the moms and mom bloggers who organized and participated in this successful, one-of-a-kind event. Congrats to everyone involved!

That’s one small step down the runway; one giant leap for fashion moms everywhere! Check out the whole fashion show in the video below.

The First Mom Fashion Show at NY Fashion Week

All of us fashion loving moms know that it’s fashion week season; from Paris to Milan and from Montreal to New York, now is the time to see what’s trending for Fall 2012. We are of course looking forward to see what all the top designers have in store for us, but one of the shows we are most looking forward to seeing is Strut – The Fashionable Mom Show. This new fashion show specifically for moms is the first of its kind and is coming up on closing day of New York’s  Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on  Thursday, February 16th at Lincoln Center.

Audrey McClelland and Vera Sweeney of Getting Gorgeous, Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein of The Moms and Holly Pavlika, the managing director of  Big Fuel, a New York full-service marketing and communications company, and founder of Momentum have all come together to create this fabulous new fashion show for moms that will have real and celebrity moms strutting  their stuff down the runway in attainable and affordable styles while the show streams live on the Net.

“Vera and I started Getting Gorgeous two years ago because we really wanted to bring attainable fashion tips to moms,” said McClelland. “For us, this was the next logical evolution and what’s remarkable about this is we can bring fashion to every mom through the live stream, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest.”

The buzz about Strut – The Fashionable Mom Show is building fast and we cannot wait to see this show! To show at Mercedes-Benz fashion week is every fashion mom’s dream! We wish we could somehow be a part of this show and attend in person, but fortunately they’ll be streaming live online, and we’ll be glued to our screens.
