Meet Moana: Disney's Soon to be Princess

Word on the Disney Street is that we can expect to welcome a new princess come 2018. As a mom to two young boys, I am constantly watching Disney movies, even ones with princesses. We really love Jasmine, Mulan, Tiana and Merida – all strong and diverse women! I couldn’t be more excited to have a new princess in the lineup. The movie, as described on Bleeding Cool, will be an adventure across the islands of the South Pacific about 2000 years ago. Say what?! We’re getting another ethnically diverse princess? Hell yes! Moana will be a film set around a Polynesian sea-voyager and Chief’s daughter, who will be embarking on a journey to help her family. According to rumors the film will incorporate spirits and gods from historical Polynesian legends, a lot like the film Hercules did. Not only do I love that we are getting a Polynesian Princess, but a movie incorporating real historical stories and images is right up my alley and I’m excited for my kids to see it.

Moana will be directed by the same folks who brought us “The Little Mermaid”, “Aladdin” and “The Princess and the Frog”. John Musker and Ron Clements will team up to bring us this new film, and it will be their first digitally animated movie. I have no doubt that we will have another winner on our hands. There isn’t much else said about the project as the debut will only be in 2018,  but I can say that I am sure there will be a multitude of little girls (and parents) who will appreciate a new Disney Princess that will look just like them. I remember as a little girl watching “Aladdin” after seeing “Cinderella”, “Sleeping Beauty” and “Beauty and the Beast”, and being so happy that finally there was someone who looked just like me! Princess Jasmine was someone I could look up to; she has long flowing black hair, large almond eyes and curvier body (compared to Princesses before her). She was my ultimate idol! Thankfully since then we’ve welcomed Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana and Merida – all strong women who break the stereotypical princess mold and I can’t wait to see just how perfectly Moana will fit in with them!

Frozen Suite at Hotel de Glace

Did your kids love Disney’s new Frozen movie as my as my son did? It was the first movie he’s ever seen in the theatre (or as he referred to it, the giant TV lol), so it was definitely one to remember for us.

Well now you and your family can have a real life Frozen experience, right here in Quebec!

Quebec City's famed Hôtel de Glace recently collaborated with Disney to create a Frozen inspired suite modeled after Anna & Elsa's bedrooms and supervised by the film's art director Michael Giaimo.

The Disney suite, open now through March 23rd, is made entirely out of sculpted ice and snow with 2 Queen sized beds and ranges in price from $498 per night during the week to $648 on the weekend. (prices subject to change throughout the season). Fit for a queen of course!

If you can’t brave the night in this Frozen abode, your family can still enjoy a tour of the hotel and suite as well as some fun in the Disney cave that has a large slide everyone is sure to enjoy.

Sounds like an unforgettable Disney experience not too far from home! I think I might just have to make a visit to Quebec City with my family one weekend. I’m sure my son would love it!

Pregnant in Heels – Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani is pregnant with her 3^rd child and the proud mom is letting us all in via social media!

Just last week, Gwen shared her first ever Instagram photo with a super cute gender revealing post saying “I was ready to hand over the crown, but I guess I am still queen of the house #itsaboy #surrounded by boys”

Today, Gwen posted a new pic via Twitter showing off her growing bump, and her always fab maternity style in a monochromatic look. Pregnancy isn’t stopping this fashion mama from being hot in heels! She posted “bump it #allblack #inappropriateshoes #capturethemoment #miracle gx”

Red Carpet Mom – Tina Fey

Funny mom Tina Fey had a very special date to the SAG Awards last Saturday Night. She was proud to have her beautiful 8 year old daughter Alice Zenobia Richmond by her side as they walked the red carpet in coordinating mother-daughter ensembles. Tina wore a black Oscar de la Renta dress with her daughter in a classy, age-appropriate dress with a black lace top and white pleated skirt paired with a matching clutch.

Much like her mom, Tina’s Mini-Me was not at all camera shy - posing for photos and waving to the camera as they zoomed in on her mom to announce the nominations for best female actor in a comedy series.

We love that she shared this special event with her daughter. What a great mommy and me moment!

Golden Globes Fashion Round Up

Award season is officially in full swing, so here are some of our personal Faves and Faux Pas’ from last night’s Golden Globe Awards!

Fashion Faves:

1.    Lupita Nyongo stunned last night in a gorgeous red capped Ralph Lauren dress. The 12 Years a Slave star is not only an up and comer in Hollywood, but definitely one to watch on the fashion scene. Her bright bold choices are always head-turners and she rocks every one with a glowing confidence. Can’t wait to see what more she has in store for us!

2.    Another newcomer, Margot Robbie surely dressed to impress in a beautiful Gucci dress with beaded accents and sexy thigh high slit, as she presented with Wolf of Wallstreet co-star, Jonah Hill.

3.     Seasoned actress, Cate Blanchett never fails to make our jaws drop. She looked absolutely stunning in an Armani lace black backless gown to accept the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama.

4.    Mila Kunis didn’t need to bring beaux, Ashton Kutcher to stand out on the red carpet. She was shining solo in a beautiful grey embellished halter dress by Gucci.

5.    We have to give it to Emma Watson for her fearless fashion risk in Dior Couture.  Her dress-over-pants look read simple and safe from the front, with a sexy surprise in the back. It takes real guts to pull this look off, but Emma rocked it, accessioning with a single Dior pearl earring and simple hair and makeup.

Beautiful Bumps:

With Olivia Wilde in a dazzling emerald green Gucci gown, Kerry Washington in custom Balenciaga and Drew Barrymore in a floral Monique Lhuillier dress, these ladies proved that it wouldn’t even matter what they wore because a baby bump is the best accessory! The visibly happy and proud moms-to-be were positively glowing!

Posh Parents:

1.    Best Actor in a Drama winner, Matthew McConaughey looked dapper in a unique emerald green, crushed velvet tuxedo with his gorgeous wife Camila Alves on his arm in a black long-sleeved gown that shimmered with sequins from head to toe. The couple both wore Dolce and Gabbana.

2.    Liev Schriver and Naomi Watts looked amazing in Tom Ford as they walked the red carpet hand-in-hand. Sexy and sweet!

3.    Jenna Dewan-Tatum had that new mama glow in a gorgeous Roberto Cavalli gown just eight months after giving birth to her daughter Everly. Of course her always handsome hubby, Channing Tatum, didn’t look so bad himself in a Gucci tuxedo.

Fashion Faux Pas’:

1.    Paula Patton is a beautiful woman but she always seems to miss the mark when it comes to fashion. We applaud her for making a fearless fashion choice but unfortunately this one did not work in her favor. The giant ruffles on her Stephane Rolland Couture gown simply swallowed her, which had the dress wearing her and not the other way around.

2.    Rumor has it that Tom Ford admitted only to dressing Naomi Watts for the red carpet, with no mention of Hayden Pannetierre; meaning, she went out and bought this dress retail. Unfortunately, we don’t think she got her money’s worth as the bejewelled halter neckline brings us back to the nineties and that slick back hair did nothing to improve the look.

3 / 4. Designer Prabal Gurung did no favors to not one, but two starlets we often enjoy seeing on the red carpet. Zoe Saldana’s mess of a dress from his Spring 2014 runway show just seemed like a patchwork of prints that left us confused while Sandra Bullock’s color block gown from the Pre-Fall 2014 collection simply failed to wow us.

5. Julia Roberts used to always make a splash on the red carpet, but this awards show veteran failed to impress us last night with an aging Dolce & Gabbana look. Maybe she should get tips from Helen Mirren who, at 68 years old, always rocks the red carpet in amazing, youthful - yet age appropriate gowns proving that style has no age!

Hostesses with the Mostest:

Finally we have to give a shoutout to the hilarious hosts, Funny moms, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler who proved that they are still golden as they entertained us for a second year in a row at the Golden Globes! However, when they hit the red carpet together, one was looking fab, and the other one - a little drab. We loved Amy Poeler’s edgy, form-fitting LBD from Stella Mcartney’s fall 2014 - that hasn't even hit the runway yet! But her partner in (fashion) crime Tina Fey failed to come up roses in a floral-printed Carolina Herrera dress. Luckily, she redeemed herself on stage when she had us in stitches.

Fashion Friday – Jeremy Scott x Moschino

Back in October it was announced that eccentric American designer Jeremy Scott would succeed Rossella Jardini as Creative Director of Italian fashion house, Moschino. We were excited to see what he had in store for the brand as he unveiled their Pre-Fall 2014 collection on Instagram on Tuesday and as expected, Scott really delivered!

So far, the debut Moschino line is a hit with all the online fans, including these two fashion mamas! Scott seamlessly mixed his sporty 80s street wear style with Moschino’s  classic mix of biker jackets, ladylike suits, quilted leather and chain trim, all heavily adorned with the signature MOSCHINO gold letters of course.

With a trio of leather jacket handbags, From classic moto to Chanel-inspired, Scott proves he is the king of kitschy chic! Mixed reviews of the trendy bags say that they don’t look very functional, but isn’t that the beauty of high end fashion? Sometimes we need to sacrifice function for fun fashion, and these trendy bags, sure look like fun!

Some of our fave pieces from the collection include the very wearable logo baseball caps and over-sized tees, the varsity jacket dress and skirt suit and the tromp l'oeil trench.

We can already see these designs on Scott’s long time friends and fans, like Rihanna, Katy Perry, Cara Delevingne and Miley Cyrus, so I’m sure it won’t be too long before we see this collection in magazines and on the red carpet.

Looking forward to what else Scott has in store for us as he presents his first Moschino runway collection next month during Milan Fashion Week.

Liberation - Queen B Style

By now, I am sure most of you have been exposed to Beyoncé's latest album. Whether you are a fan or not, you got to give it to her, girl worked it out! The album to say the least, is extremely raw, open and much more sexual then what we have come to expect from her. Possibly as a way to stay relevant in comparison to her "competition" in the music industry, or maybe as she tells in her part four "Self-Titled" docu-series, has much to do with becoming a mother. As a young mother to a three and one year old, I can totally relate to the later. I am coming into my own and love the entire album and all she has to say in the series, especially this particular video. 

In the five minute glimpse into her thought process, she goes on to talk about how becoming a mother to her two year old daughter, Blue Ivy, has given her so much liberation and the ability to truly embrace her sexuality. While we all don't look like Beyoncé, we can learn to let go a little bit with our own sexuality and how to embrace our bodies and learn to love ourselves in all aspects. And hell, if not just for ourselves, the special man in your life will surely enjoy it! “Just because you become a mother doesn't mean you lose who you are,” she explains in the video. For me personally,  I am just figuring out who I really am, and I can say that hearing those words on the album have given me a real boost and motivation to find out, and it's damn exciting!

“I was breast feeding, cornrows in my hair, because I was spending so much time being a mother,” she said. “Recording this album was such an outlet for me to kinda escape and create whatever world and fantasy that definitely at the time was not happening.” We can all relate to this in some way or another. We can immerse ourselves so much in mother hood that we get a little lost. It is so important for all of us, to find an outlet and take some "me" time, even for megastars like Queen B. 

It's not all about sex on the album though, if you want to hear a ode to her precious baby girl, take a listen to "Blue". I can feel the love she put into it, and it makes me think of my children and how much I love them. I am listening to the album on repeat and I can't enough! It's nothing that we've seen before from her and I just can't stop.
