Be a Buddy, Not a Bully - Pink Shirt Day 2014

As you must know by now, bullying has become a national epidemic that affects thousands of children worldwide. We have seen it in schools forever and with the advances in technology, and social media, today, bullying has reached a dangerous new level.

Tomorrow, Wednesday February 26th is Pink Shirt Day! A day where kids and parents alike are encouraged to wear pink to help raise awareness for anti-bullying. The day was created in 2007 by David Shepherd and Travis Price, two high school students in Nova Scotia who bought and distributed 50 pink shirts after a ninth grade student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt during the first day of school.

This year, our favourite toy store, Toys R Us Canada, is proudly taking a stand against bullying and supporting Pink Shirt Day in all of their stores across Canada with their “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” Pink Shirt Day campaign.

Last week we shared with you via social media, a Family Play Day event Toys R Us held last Saturday with games, crafts and activities, where they gave away 100 free pink t-shirts in each store for kids to wear on Pink Shirt Day. If you had the chance to make it, you and your kids are already prepared! If not, that’s ok too! Just take a look in your closet, because any pink shirt will do! And if you don't have anything already, here are a few last minute options for the whole family..

Clockwise from left:
1. Eversoft cardigan, Gap, $21.99, 2. Toddler Boy Gingham Shirt & Necktie Set, Old Navy, $22.94,
3. Men's Cotton European Fit Shirt, Le Chateau, $79.95, 4. Top with Smock Collar, Zara, $49.90,
5. Official Pink Shirt Day T-Shirt, PinkShirtDay.ca, $9.80, 6. Girls Anti-Bullying Graphic Tee, Children's Place, $5

As parents of young children it is important to us to spread awareness around this epidemic, because anyone can easily become a target of bullying. Did you know that 85% of bullying takes place in front of others but when somebody stands up to bullying, while it’s taking place, it’s likely to stop within 10 seconds of intervention? It is our job as parents to teach our kids, not only to not be the bully, but to be brave enough to stand up for each other against bullying and do the right thing, just like the boys in Nova Scotia did for their fellow student.

Join us and Toys R Us Canada tomorrow and make a REAL fashion statement! Wear pink, have your kids wear pink, tell your co-workers to wear pink and help spread awareness and take a stand to support anti-bullying!

We want to see you show your support! Share your Pink Shirt Day pictures with us on Instagram using the following hashtags:

Trendy Tuesday – Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid

Every year, Pantone, the ultimate authority on color, dictates color trends for each season as well as the color of the year, which influences our choices in fashion, beauty, home decorating and more! For 2014, their trendy pick is Radiant Orchid!

Described by Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®, Radiant Orchid is “An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones. Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

Spring 2014 RTW - Temperley London, Lanvin, Max Mara, Missoni, DKNY
Purple is a magical color. It is the color of royalty, and Radiant Orchid does have its charm, but it’s not always the easiest color to wear. Just because it’s the trendiest color of the year, also doesn’t mean you have to wear it from head to toe! Sometimes the best way to wear color is by accessorizing! Use it as that one splash of color against an otherwise neutral background. In fashion, that can be a great handbag, a fabulous shoe or even your phone case! For beauty it can be an eye shadow, a bold lip or a simple manicure. For the home, you can accessorize with a beautiful scented candle, some accent pillows or a fun counter top appliance.

Here are some options on how you and your whole family can incorporate this trendy color of the year into your world!

What's In A Name?

Usually when a celeb welcomes a new baby into theirs lives you can count on them naming that poor baby something pretty outrageous and weird. A few worth mentioning would be Alicia Silverstone and her baby Bear Blu, Gwenth Paltrow's Apple and Jason Lee's son Pilot Inspektor (yes, really :/). While I am sure each of these parents have a strong meaning behind each name, I just think that poor kid! Well Pink is a new mom, and we really like her choice of baby name. Willow Sage is what she decided and while it's unique it's also really pretty. She recently told Hello! magazine the meaning behind Willow, “I grew up near one. It is the most flexible tree and nothing can break it – no wind, no elements. It can bend and withstand anything. I love that sentiment and I want that for her.” She had this to say about her daughter's middle name, ”Sage is cleansing and sacred and it sounds great with Willow. It doesn’t hurt that her last name is Hart – flexible, cleansed heart.” Love it!!

I know for me personally when choosing the name Kion for my son, I wanted something Persian to carry on my family's heritage. It also translates to King of Kings, and for me, that holds a lot of meaning for my first born. What's the special meaning behind your child's name? We'd love to hear about it!

Tickled Pink!

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share this adorable pic of one of our fave celeb families. In this photo Pink is absolutely glowing! And how cute is little Willow? LOVE! Pink tells People magazine "You hear people say it all the time, how life changes so drastically. But you can't possibly grasp how beautiful that is until you have your child," We couldn't agree more. Precious!
